Who We Are:
Camas provides environmental consulting services to governments, businesses, and landowners seeking assistance with projects that impact land and water. We assist with project components such as regulatory permitting, scientific analysis, land conservation, compliance program development, and working-group facilitation related to any aspect of these processes.
We generate solutions at the intersection of science, policy, and economics that enable all stakeholders to come away from the table knowing that the path forward is reasonable and beneficial to both the environment and the bottom line. To generate effective solutions, the Camas team of experienced scientists, planners, and facilitators have extensive experience in permitting and environmental compliance on the federal, state, county, and city levels. Our projects include renewable energy & utility permitting, biological consulting and reporting, site remediation and restoration, sustainability, and conservation.
Camas is looking to hire professional Environmental Consultants to support our client needs. The roles will include leading permit acquisition, implementation, and scientific studies that are timely and within budget. The successful candidates will possess the capacity for identifying and executing permit strategy, responding to a fast-paced work product environment, analyzing/interpreting data, recognizing client needs and interests, preparing quality work products with minimal QA/QC required, and functioning well in a team atmosphere.

Who You Are:
Experienced: BA/BS in Environmental Planning, Environmental Planning/Law, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Biology, Fisheries, Geology, Hydrology, Botany, or similar field of study. Master’s degree preferred with at least 2+ years in a consulting role.
Talented: You excel at providing environmental planning services while partnering with engineers, resource specialists, biologists, and senior planners. Job responsibilities include preparation of documents and coordination of permitting actions related to NEPA, CEQA, state fish and game codes, land use codes, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act for renewable energy and sustainable development clients and preparing related environmental documentation; assisting with environmental permitting efforts, including local land use applications; and developing documentation for a variety of planning studies. Geospatial capabilities are desirable but not essential.
Relationship-focused: Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative approach, team player and you thrive on developing rapport with others to maintain quality delivery.
Skilled writing: This position spends time focused on writing and analysis. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable with working in a team environment on large, complex projects. You have progressive writing experience on previous environmental projects and have received high remarks on written documents.

Typically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, other qualifications they possess, successful applicant would be placed at as Camas as a Planner or Scientist I, II, or III level.
Job Type: Full-time, not remote – will consider a remote start for candidates that need to relocate.
Specific responsibilities include:
Leading the development of regulatory permit applications and their implementation.
Developing execution plans for all regulatory interactions and permitting deliverables.
Tracking and reporting permit schedules & expiration dates.
Developing proposals for prospective clients.
Developing strong working relationships with regulatory agencies.
Estimating labor effort to perform the work and remain within budget.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject.
Capacity to work independently to draft and compile permit documents/reports and supporting information without supervision.
Strong written communication skills including experience with MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with relevant environmental regulations and permits/approvals (e.g., CWA 401/402/404, NWP/IP, NEPA, CEQA, ESA).
Excellent teamwork, self-motivation, and communication skills.
Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
Positive attitude and team-centered approach to problem solving.
Capacity to work in an open work environment.
Interest in joining a boutique-sized consulting company that specializes in meeting the client’s interests.
Ability to travel to sites as needed.
Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass a basic background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications Entry Level:
1-5 years of professional experience.
Coursework including Federal/State/Local environmental regulations.
Internship or other working experience in field of major.
Strong writing skills, with examples of work products.
Capacity and desire to learn new things quickly and be challenged.
Capacity to require minimal instruction or assistance to deliver the work product.
GIS mapping experience.
Interest in learning diverse subjects quickly.
Preferred Qualifications Senior Level:
Master’s degree or proven work history in consulting.
5-7 years of professional experience.
Strong knowledge of Federal/State/Local environmental regulations.
Strong verbal communication skills including leading in-person meetings and conference calls.
Energy industry experience, preferably FERC hydroelectric experience.
Strong track record of communicating with and developing relationships with regulatory agency personnel.
Capacity and desire to learn new things quickly and be challenged.
Capacity to require minimal instruction or assistance to deliver the work product.
GIS mapping experience.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
The work requires the ability to travel to meetings and to visit remote work sites often located on rough, uneven terrain. May require attending evening and weekend meetings.
